Dr Viki Mitchell (2000, 2014)

I qualified in medicine at Kings College London and completed my specialist training in anaesthesia in London becoming a senior registrar at University College Hospital and the Middlesex . I was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist with a special interest in maxillofacial anaesthesia in 1987. I developed a strong interest in teaching and training in advanced airway management and set up an airway fellowship at UCLH and established an awake fibreoptic intubation course.
I was College Tutor for two terms and then became Clinical Lead for Anaesthesia in 2007. In 2011 I was appointed as Divisional Clinical Director for Theatres and Anaesthesia.
I have continued to teach in airway management and have contributed numerous chapters and articles in this area, most recently co-authoring the Difficult Airway Society Extubation Guidelines which were published in 2012.
